What is Blue Jays and Waterways?

Blue Jays and Waterways is my needlessly detailed and cherished Fallout fanfiction that centers around my Lone Wanderer, Jay Hanson, and her life in the Wasteland. I've been working on the main fanfiction on and off since 2017 and also like showing bits and peices of the story through different multimedias (comics, videos, art, ect).

There's something about Jay that has always made me gravitate toward her, so this page really doubles as a web shrine for her lmao. She started out as a self-insert, but eventually took on a life of her own. Jay has become somewhat of a reflection of my own personal struggles, so I like to describe her as my most actualized OC.

I've always liked the idea of a non-chronological story, so I like to think of everything that I've posted about her is my own way of sharing her story with you. Since most people that like FO3 already know how the main campaign goes, I like to focus on the characters' emotions and interpersonal relationships during key events.

The story has evolved a lot through out the years, so there are some bits that I've included here that are now non-canon, but I've included for the sake of archive!

"Blue Jays" by Days N Daze

Blue Jay Hanson is the daughter of Dr. James Hanson and Dr. Catherine Stells; due to Catherine's cleaner genetics as a result of growing up in the relatively clean Tenpenny Towers, Jay was born in better health than most in the Wasteland.

She took after her parents and was extremely interested in science and technology-- she mainly took more after her father than her mother, unfortunately. She had always been socially awkward around people her age; she speaks in a manner-of-fact fashion, lacks an understanding of social cues, and is often described as rude. She can be her own worse critic and will tend to put others first before herself.

Jay considers her father to be the most important person in her life; growing up in the vault, he was the only person in the vault that understood her unconditionally. She is almost unhealthily attached to her father, changing her attitude to avoid getting him in trouble with the overseer, chasing after him when he leaves the vault, and letting her grief completely consume her life when he gives his life trying to save her.

The only other person that she is close to is Butch DeLoria. Although they would fight constantly as children, the two came to a common-understanding as teenagers and would become close friends behind closed doors. I would like to take a second to assert that Butch and Jay's relationship is purely platonic. They would grow to treat eachother like siblings; James even seeing Butch as a son.
